The church gets a new creche

At the beginning of the year, Fr. Jim asked Doug to make a new creche for the church for Christmas 2010. So Doug thought about it for MONTHS and waited until the cold weather of October to begin the construction! Doug and John (next door) worked on this every weekend for weeks. They designed it themselves - the roof and floor come off easily, and the sides swing in so that it can lean flat against the wall and not take up so much floor space in the garage. Apparently space is at a premium in the church's garage! Occasionally another person would come over to help but it was pretty much the blind leading the blind as no one had experience in this sort of thing before! They made their mistakes, but figured out how to correct them. Sherry did a beautiful job staining it afterwards. The cedar shingles give it a really nice look. I told the guys they should write down how they did it (because they'll forget if they don't!) and market it to other churches! It's by far, the nicest creche in the area!
