Wild West City

Last March, we won free tickets to the Wild West City so we finally cashed them in this October. It was a beautiful fall day - sunny and warm with a cool wind after days of rain so it was good to be outside. I imagine this place was all the rage in the 50's, 60's, and 70's but it felt a little run down by now. They have a main street with little shops which are actual mini-museums that were really interesting. They have actors recreating stage coach holdups and train hold ups that we can participate in. The girls got to help round up the bad guys. It's probably the only place where little boys are encouraged to wear cowboy outfits and run around shooting toy guns at eachother and adults. The best place, in my opinion, was the old school house. You could go through the books - everything was hands-on. The girls and I spent extra time in there. We got to pan for gold, ride ponies, visit some farm animals, ride a train through the woods, look inside a lifesize covered wagon, and wander up to recreated scenes from the past and ask questions or participate. It was fun, but I'm not sure we'll go back again - at least until Kaitlin can participate.

There were bees everywhere and Caroline was deathly afraid. But she wanted her picture taken anyway!
