So after the hurricane made any coastal driving/vacationing impossible for a few days, we decided to drive to VA the long way and go through the mountains on the west side of the state. We stayed over night in the mountains, and toured the Shenandoah Caverns in the morning. (Daring, I know, seeing as there was an earthquake in Virginia a few days earlier!) They had a fun museum and gift shop so we spent some more time there after the caverns.
We got back in the car and drove to Monticello for lunch. What a fabulous place! We didn't tour Jefferson's mansion because it was too costly and time-consuming. We wanted to be in Williamsburg for dinner. But at their visitor's center, they have a wonderful children's museum that was FREE! So we spent time there having fun with the hands-on displays. I highly recommend stopping here.
Then it was on to Williamsburg where we stayed at a resort in a 2-bedroom 2-bathroom condo. Perfect! That's so much easier to vacation in than a regular hotel room when a baby needs to sleep.
So after this part of the trip, it was on to Busch Gardens and Historic Williamsburg for the next 3 days. Those pictures are in another post.
