Luray Caverns in Virginia

On our way home from Oklahoma, we stayed in Luray, VA. We stayed at a cute, campy 60's style motel with an outdoor pool across the street from the Luray Caverns with it's little museums besides. The view was gorgeous - we were in the mountains with beautiful green rolling hills out in the country.

Doug and I had visited the Luray Caverns back in 1994 and while the caves haven't changed, technology has made the experience even better. Before, we took a guided tour with a group of people. Nowadays, you can take the tour whenever you are ready because you have a set of headphones. Whenever there is something interesting, they have a sign with the number to punch into your headset. There is a kids version as well, which proved great fun to our kids. Nikki and Caroline LOVED the caves and learned a lot. They can tell you all about stalagtites and stalagmites. Kaitlin, on the other hand, slept through part of it.

When we were done with the caves, we emerged back into the bright sunlight (and heat!) and visited the gift shop, the homemade fudge shop, the car museum, and the Life-In-The-1800's museum. We could have also done the garden maze, but we had to get home. It was such a good experience for all of us. We look forward to returning some day when Kait will be old enough to enjoy and learn something, too!
