At first it was beautiful - like a snowglobe turned upside down and big pillowy inches of snow on top of everything. (It was falling about 2" per hour) But a few hours into it, it started warming up and turned to a mixture of snow and rain. By nighttime, it was mostly slush. The girls went out to play just before 4pm and didn't come back in until 7pm. They had a blast with sleds on the hill in our back yard, and snowball fights, etc. I even got them (and neighborhood kids) to help me shovel the porch and steps! What a great way to begin winter break from school!

Cold white stuff
What is this white stuff that falls from the sky and covers everything? Oh yeah, we've seen this in Michigan before! It's snow!!!! This part of the East Coast is so funny. News of the coming storm prompted MANY school districts in NJ and NY to close premptively. Our school stayed open with the understanding that many parents would pull their kids out early. So I stayed for Caroline's class Christmas party in the morning, and then returned around 1pm to get Nikki. The problem is no one knows how to drive in this stuff and the plows do a TERRIBLE job. The other problem is there are so many steep hills which make driving even more treacherous on poorly plowed, unsalted roads with unsure drivers using their cell phones to call their friends about how bad the weather is...
