As if skiing weren't enough excitement this weekend, we had to rush back Sunday so that Nikki could attend "Girl Scout Recognition Sunday 2009" for the archdiocese of Newark (it covers 4 counties). Her troop worked very hard to earn the "Mother of God" badge so they received the badge and a pin at this ceremony from the Archbishop himself. What an honor! It was a white-glove ceremony. Girls from all over the diocese who earned religious badges were there for their blessing and award. It was such a neat experience, I'm sure the girls will want to work on another badge to earn themselves another trip to the cathedral next year. Caroline, on the other hand, was not so impressed. Or maybe just exhausted. She slept through nearly the whole thing on Doug's shoulder.
It took place at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. What an amazing building. It's the 5th largest cathedral in the nation and is absolutely breath-taking in it's size and architecture and beautiful details. Check out their website for more pictures and history at

Here's a movie of Kendall, Natalie, then Nikki receiving their pins (on a ribbon) from Archbishop Myers. The rest of the girls are from other troops. Their names had been read off right before this as they got in line.
